B. Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG)
- Mr. Salgado had the following updates:
o REAP 2.0: SCAG will be hosted virtual focus groups and listening sessions to seek feedback on core objectives driving the development of the housing supportive infrastructure program and prioritization of projects.
o The Regional Data Platform will standardize regionally significant datasets, provide opportunities for local partners to update their data in real-time, and draw insights from local trends. More specifically, it will be an online tool for SCAG and local jurisdictions to access data necessary for local general plan development and general decision making by monitoring transportation, land development trends, housing and economic growth, and sustainability conditions. One-on-one meetings will be set up with all agencies for the 2024 Connect SoCal.
o GIS Training: There has been discussion about providing GIS training in the Imperial Valley. The last training provided by GIS was about 5 years ago. There is opportunity for basic and more technical training that pertains to some of the programs from different cities.
o Go Human Update: On March 28, SCAG released its Call for Applications for the Go Human Community Engagement Mini-Grants Program to support creative, community-driven traffic safety and engagement projects. SCAG will award up to $15,000 to 25 selected projects. To access the application or to learn more about the upcoming information sessions and eligibility, please visit the Go Human webpage. C. Caltrans Department of Transportation – District 11
- Ms. Khuu had the following updates:
o Ms. Khuu stated that there was no news to report on traffic operations. She will note any questions asked and will bring it back to the next meeting.
o Questions for Caltrans:
o Miguel Figueroa, County of Imperial, commented and asked that there have been significant delays in the Highway 98 Widening Project. Has this issue been resolved? Will there be a presentation given to the Calexico City Council? Is there an updated timeline for this project?
o Mr. Aguirre provided some comments pertaining to the Highway 98 Widening Project. The contractor failed to comply with the project. This resulted in removing the contractor and evoked their bonds associated with that contractor. The bonding company is going through the efforts of trying to hire a new contractor. Simultaneously, Caltrans is carrying this project as its own to see if there will be any progress on finishing the project. It is anticipated to take about 2-3 months to have it completed.
o Mr. Aguirre commented that there was a presentation at the City of Calexico presented by Daniel Hernandez, Caltrans. The current situations were presented to the Calexico City Council and the public. Caltrans was asked to provide reoccurring updates pertaining to the project.
o Marcela Piedra, City of El Centro, commented that during the last City Managers portion of the agenda, she encouraged the Airport Planning Commission to update Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan because it is outdated. Council Member Walker indicated that there was a program from Caltrans that potentially had planning available. Who would be the best contact from Caltrans to initiate this conversation with?
